Mie Course Overview

Mie prefecture covers 5,777k㎡, and lays along the pacific Ocean. As of 2016 the population was 1,807,611. It is the seventh prefecture on the Tokai Nature Trail, the Mie course takes you through western Mie, where you can continue either into Nara prefecture, or Shiga prefecture. Mie’s capital city Tsu City, which is about 3 hours away from Toyko (69). 

Mie Prefecture’s landscape consists of plains, basin areas and mountainous regions as well as coastal region, which includes the famous Ago Bay. Mie’s coastline is also famous for Mikimoto Pearl Island, where you can still see the traditional women pearl divers, Ama dive(70).

Mie is home to Ise and Kumano, two main spiritual sites of Japan. The pilgrimage site of Kumano ,Kumano-Kodo, became a World Heritage Site in 2004 (69). The Tokai Nature Trail does not take you to these places, but if you have the chance they are worth visiting.

The starting point for the course Suisho Dani(水晶渓). The course will take you to Tsubaki Grand Shrine (椿大神社), Kamoshika Plateau (かもしか高原) and Mt. Fudesute (筆捨山). The main Mie Course ends at Yono Park (余野公園), from there you will enter into Shiga Prefecture.

The website guides serve as an over view of each prefectural course the Ebook goes into much more detail about each section, this is because the prefectural courses offer multiple routes. 

The course overview of each prefecture shows the outline of the course, and some of the major points of interest.  The Tokai trail offers many different routes, and the maps, even those on the trail, do not always show all courses. To address this issues I wrote a free guidebook that covers the complete trail.
